"Community cannot long feed on itself, it can only flourish with the coming of others from beyond: their unknown and undiscovered sisters and brothers."
                                                                                                                -Howard Thurman

this is not an elite group or clique - we welcome new people and we actually all talk to one another - and YOU. Your job? Share food, drink, party and meet 3 new people.  Bring others, encourage community building, it's important to be a part of something good.  And we also need volunteers every party!

Now, A Tacoma Art Event
by Marsha Lichorowic

It seems everyone is talking about
The Hundredth Monkey...
another name for seachange,
tipping point, critical mass.
An idea whose time has come
ripened by one,
the 100th Monkey.
One to tip the balance.

Once an inchoate movement,
a slowly congealing thought
lit by various lights
til all at once a blaze is born...
a phenomenon on its way to
becoming the zeitgeist.

Groundswell, grassroots,
a populist vision.
And finally that subtle
mental transmission,
that juju that goes from eye to eye,
igniting another soul.

Maybe the last soul to get on board
to boost into a movement
what had been scattered Illuminati...
now becoming haloed, over arching;
99 lights plus one other.
Ablaze.

Note From Your Monk Artist

I am a Tacoma  based artist. I began painting after returning home from a tour of service in Iraq. I doubt home is an accurate description of what I came back to.  There was supposed to be someone waiting.  There wasn't.  Something in me fractured and I turned in on myself. I felt an overwhelming need to create something, anything. I quickly found I had more to say about life than earth tones or still life paintings of fruit could ever begin to cover. Where do I see my art going? Wherever it does I guess. I paint because I love to, because it's the only thing that really makes sense, and because every day I paint is a day that only came because I
never quit on myself.   You can view my work in person at Speakeasy Arts
Cooperative, find me on Facebook, or view my online portfolio at
